The best eraser is repentance, if it is sincere, it leaves no stains...

Musa alai salam asked a man he met on the road: – What do you do? - I always pray. I have no other occupation. - How do you get along? - My brother is watching. When the great prophet was leaving, he turned his head and said: - Your brother is better than you.

Importance of Friday Prayer

Friday is the weekly holiday of Muslims. In this respect, Muslims prepare for this day from the evening on Thursday. To prepare for Friday, they take ablution, wear clean clothes, and apply perfume. They do this as a recommendation of our Prophet. Because our Prophet (pbuh); “Whoever wants to come on Friday should make an ablution.” (Muslim, Friday, 2) “Every adolescent should make a ghusl on Friday, clean their mouth and teeth, and apply enough fragrance.” (Muslim, Friday, 7).

Muslims try to benefit from the spiritual blessings of such a valuable and important day by reciting the Qur'an, dhikr and contemplation, salutations and salutations to our Prophet, repentance and forgiveness, going to the mosque and listening to sermons and sermons.

Friday Pray; It is an act of worship that conduces to social solidarity and cohesion, unity and togetherness, Islamic knowledge and awareness.

Those Who Are Obligated to Perform the Friday Prayer

In order for a person to be obliged to perform the Friday prayer, the following conditions must be met:

a) Being a Muslim, smart and reaching puberty.

b) Being healthy: The crippled, paralyzed, disabled, handicapped and sick people who cannot attend the Friday prayer, and those who have to take care of them, those who fear that their illness will increase or prolong if they attend the Friday prayer, and those who are too old to walk, are not obliged to perform the Friday prayer. If the visually impaired can come to the mosque or have a companion who can take them to the mosque, they are obliged to perform the Friday prayer. (see Muslim, Mesâcid, 255; Ebu Davud, Salat, 46)

c) Being a resident: In order for Friday prayer to be fard for a person, he must be residing in the place where the Friday prayer is performed. Therefore, the Friday prayer is not obligatory for those who are religiously regarded as travelers. According to Hanafi scholars, a person must go to a place 90 km away to stay less than 15 days in order to be considered a guest in religion. According to Shafiis, a person who goes to a place 90 km away for three days, excluding the days of entry and exit, is considered a guest.

d) Being a man: “Performing the Friday prayer is obligatory for every Muslim. However, four groups of people; It is not obligatory for a slave, woman, child or patient.” The hadith meaning (Abu Dawud, Salat, 215) expresses who is responsible for performing the Friday prayer. This has been the practice since Friday prayer was made obligatory. All Muslims, including mujtahid imams and later scholars, agreed that Friday prayer is obligatory for men but not for women.

“Do not hinder your women when they want to go to the mosque.” (Muslim, Masâcid, 135-36)

However, women can come to the mosque and perform Friday prayers. The fact that the Friday prayer is not made obligatory for women is an exemption, not a deprivation for them. However, today, it would be more appropriate for women to go to the mosque on Friday, listen to the sermon and the sermon, and perform the Friday prayer. As a matter of fact, our Prophet (pbuh);

“Do not hinder your women when they want to go to the mosque.” (Muslim, Mesâcid, 135-36). During the time of the Prophet and the Companions, women used to attend Friday prayers and daily prayers.
Those in captivity, detainees and prisoners are also not obliged to perform the Friday prayer. However, if there is a mosque where they are, the prisoners perform the Friday prayer.

If the Friday prayer is not obligatory for them, their prayers will be valid and they will no longer perform the noon prayer that day.

Some excuses make it permissible for people for whom the Friday prayer is obligatory not to attend the Friday prayer. The main excuses that make it permissible not to attend the Friday prayer are as follows:

a) If it rains heavily enough to cause serious harm or distress to the person if he attends the Friday prayer,

b) The weather is too cold or too hot,

c) The road is excessively muddy,

d) Not being able to take leave from the job for which he has to work,

e) Concerns that if he attends the Friday prayer, his property, life or honor will be endangered.

Conditions for Validity of Friday Prayer

In order for a person whose Friday prayer is obligatory to perform Friday prayer, the following conditions must be met:

a) Time: The Friday prayer is performed at the time of the noon prayer on Friday. (see Muslim, Friday, 28-29) If it is performed before or after the time of the noon prayer, the Friday prayer will not be valid.

b) Congregation: The Friday prayer is performed in congregation, not alone. According to the ijtihad of Abu Yusuf, there must be three congregations, including the imam, and according to the ijtihads of Abu Hanifa and Muhammad, there must be three congregations excluding the imam. Even if they are passengers or sick, this condition is deemed to have been fulfilled.

According to Imam Shafii, in order to perform Friday prayers in a place, it is necessary to have at least forty obligated congregations that are intelligent, mature, free, male and settled there. Imam Shafi'i is based on the presence of forty people in the Friday prayer performed here before the Prophet's arrival in Medina. However, this does not mean that Friday prayers will not be obligatory for people less than forty congregations. As a matter of fact, Hz. By the order of the Prophet Mus'ab b. It is rumored that Umayr led the Friday prayer for 12 people in Medina. (see Beyhakî, III, 179, No: 5407)

What are the Conditions of Validity for Friday Prayer?

In addition, the narration that all but twelve of the congregation heard that the commercial caravan had arrived while the Messenger of Allah was leading the Friday prayer is included in the authentic hadith sources. (see Bukhari, Friday, 38) On the other hand, Hz. The Prophet stated that Friday prayer is obligatory even if there are only four people in a settlement. (see Beyhakî, III, 179, No: 5406, 5407; Dârekutnî, II, 8-9, No: 1-3) In this respect, if there are at least four people with the imam in a settlement, Friday prayers must be performed.

c) Mosque: Friday is performed in mosques or prayer places. Even though there was more than one mosque in Medina at the time of our Prophet, Friday prayers were only performed in Masjid an-Nabawi. Since Muslims living in a city in our age cannot fit in a mosque, Friday prayers can be performed in more than one mosque and prayer places.

d) Permission: Hanafis argued that the head of state or his representative or a person authorized by them should lead the Friday prayer. Madhhabs other than Hanafis do not seek this condition for the validity of Friday prayers. A person who is authorized to lead the Friday prayer in a mosque can either lead the Friday prayer himself or have someone else lead it.

According to Hanafis, in order for Friday prayers to be performed in a place, it is necessary to give permission to perform Friday prayers in that place, openly to everyone, by the authorized person.

e) Reciting the sermon: In order for the Friday prayer to be valid, it is obligatory to read the sermon before the prayer.
